I've been at it for almost 16 years now and it's a huge part of my life, including being my full time job teaching classes and helping run a dojo. I actually got into martial arts because I knew there were elements of it in pro wrestling and I saw a commercial for a local place in 2006 while watching Smackdown. I earned my black belt in Judo in 2017 and this last weekend I earned my black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Long way of getting to the question, but does anyone else here do martial arts/ have done any in the past? I'm always down to train with anyone that does.

Did it as a kid. I'm a strong white-belt.

I did Tae Kwon Do for a few months in 5th grade. Hurt my elbow right before my test for yellow belt and never went back after recovering. Like David, I'm a strong white belt. Maybe even stronger. Maybe one day we can find out.

Did some aikido in college, as well as some kyudo (Japanese archery). I'm looking into some training again to get into better shape as well.

I can give you some recommendations through the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association (same association I'm a part of) if you're interested. Let me know your area and I'll find a good school near you.

When I lived in Portland I always wanted to see if I could join the US Wushu Academy, especially since the instructors were personal friends/teammates of Jet Li. But I never did. When I was six, my parents asked, and silly me was more interested in cartoons and for some reason that was the one time they let me make a decision for myself in my childhood lol
I keep telling myself I should look into something for adults. Not even for like "Rawr me become badass" just something to help with stress and learn more discipline.

pylum What's your thoughts on Frank Dux and his qualifications? The guy can probably fight halfway decently as long as he doesn't have to worry about any grappling, but I think his stories are almost entirely made up to make him sound like a badass.

I got my black belt in a store a few years ago. I've been hands free ever since. Seriously though, major kudos to anyone here for success in their choice of martial arts.

I did Karate as a teenager throughout the 90's and into the early 2000's, most tournament type stuff in the later years. That part of my life feels so far removed though and I haven't practiced in so long I doubt you would even be able to tell I ever did lol

I was a high blue belt in tae kwon do but moved on from that a few months before my red belt test.
For the past eight months I’ve been in training for my first amateur MMA fight which should hopefully take lace this summer.

I've trained MMA in the past but never actually did a fight. Lots of grappling competitions, but never an MMA fight. Much respect for anyone that gets in that cage.

Appreciate it!! Still trying to focus on my cardio but I’ve been training a lot in sambo for the time being. Sambo is awesome. I'm lucky in that my sensei is a black belt in Judo, BJJ and the black belt equivalent in Sambo, so we train a hybrid style of the 3. IMO it's a much more complete art than any of the individual styles and much more closely resembles what would have originally been practiced in Japan before being spread throughout the world.
