Title says it all.
Who is a popular artist or band that you just never got the appeal of understood really?
I used to work at a place in high school that was like a standard t-shirt tourist shop. My boss (who was actually my cousin) had this playlist of music we had to listen to every day. It was a 5 disc changer (I'm old). The 1st one in there was Grateful Dead's greatest hits and it was by far my least favorite of the 5 cds. I couldn't stand any of their music and just never got their appeal.
Runner up is Dave Matthews Band, but that could just be because a lot of their fans are kind of douchey about it sometimes.

The Beatles. I always get a lot of flack when I say that. I can appreciate their contribution to the music scene, but I just never could get into their music.

I think it is getting to be more and more popular now as an opinion with the Beatles hype being a bit much. I agree with both picks. I am not a music person in general, so its all whatever to me, but that said - I feel both of these picks from my personal experience. As a kid in the 2000s, I remember U2 having a short run playing metaphorical Jesus in music conversations. I think, for me, the biggest ones I recall were U2 and Muse that were heralded as the change of the industry for various different reasons. It became very draining as they both were very "okay" to me and it was trying to be "yeah and - " in every conversation to get away from those two bands without having unnecessary arguments about why I felt that way about them.

Pharrell Williams should be boiled in oil and have his fat sold for soap.

U2 would be my choice. Just makes me cringe. I don't know why.

I've thought about this for 30 seconds so here are my takes.
I like The Beatles. I can see how they're deemed overrated with how god-like they're treated in today's world, though. I don't think they're the best band ever, but Paul McCartney put on the best concert I've ever seen in my life and I enjoy most of their music collectively. I respect opinions on both sides of the "I love/hate those guys."
Coldplay and U2 are my votes for most overrated.
Honorable mentions: Beyoncé, Led Zeppelin (bunch of music thieves), and Madonna.

Respect them but cannot fucking stand their stuff. Don't ask me why either.

U2 all day, every day. They started as watered down punk, turned into alternative-tinged pop, then spent over a decade chasing musical fads and half-assing them into oblivion. Their whole "force-feeding an album into everyone's iTunes library" stunt was the last straw that pushed me into giving up my iPod Touch.
I'd also very much agree with Coldplay. Start out with one solid, if boring album, then ride that wave into lazy, repetitive songwriting and supposedly "interesting" new ideas that basically boil down into "how can we sound different, yet somehow the same, and yet do even less in the studio and on stage?"
I get the anti-Beatles backlash, but as a bit of a music geek I can't possibly understate the effect they had on popular music, especially in the way it was presented commercially. I get that they're not everyone's cup of tea, though. Me? I love them.\.
And yes, Dave Matthews Band is awful. But I can't call them overrated because I'm pretty sure everyone agrees now that they are, were, and will be awful.

I can only handle one song actually by them, and the other is a Swedish Death Metal band's cover (Pain's Eleanor Rigby, super good)

Also my turn to really set things ablaze. Rolling Stones and AC/DC. Just cannot get into either and I actually like a lot of rock so it's not a rock thing. I just will never get the enjoyment of either.
