It's been a rough few days for Prince Devitt. Undefeated and riding high going into Ascension, the wave of success he was riding came crashing down rather quickly, brought to an end by Matt Cardona. More accurately, by the hands of Chelsea Green, making sure he couldn't get back in the ring in time. And if that wasn't bad enough, only a short time later Cardona managed to cash in his rewards for the unfair and unearned victory, taking the X-Division title off of Chef Bruan Strowman.
So while Devitt was all ready to claim his still superiority, based entirely on his position on the Vengeance card, that particular rug was pulled out from under him. He had come into WLCW alone intentionally. He knew he was one of the best, and wanted to be able to prove it single-handedly. But events of late had begun to make him wonder if it wasn't time for a little backup plan…
But first comes CM Punk. Again. And as Devitt wanders through the corridors of Vancouver International Airport, mulling a few phone calls and a few decisions, he decides it's high time to share a few words…
PRINCE DEVITT: There's some real screwy shite goin' on around this place. Fookin' Matt Cardona's bird grabs my ankle and keeps me outta the ring just long enough to pull off the win, then the fookin tosser uses his ill-gotten contendership and wins the title offa the loser that holds it on the YouTube show no one's watchin'. In the meantime, I get shoved into the main event of the next real show…against another fookin' loser that I already beat!
Devitt snorts in derision and rolls his eyes. He knew that, with a relatively small and "elite" roster, he'd likely end up repeating opponents…but never expected it to happen after only two official appearances.
PRINCE DEVITT: Cardona, believe me when I tell you that you got a target right square on the back of your head. It ain't gonna be long before I exact a little revenge for screwin' me outta that X-Division belt. You think you pulled off the heist of the century, I'm sure, but all you've gone and done is piss off someone that's real quick on the draw. This here real shooter don't miss, boyo
Devitt resists the urge to smirk, instead giving the cell phone camera a cold, hard look. As angry and frustrated as he is over the loss to Cardona, he doesn't want the man to realize that it's damn near impossible to take him seriously, even after a string of victories.
PRINCE DEVITT: As for Punk, yeah, I heard you call me out in the run up to Ascension, mate. And back then I didn't much care. I already beat you, clean in the middle of the ring. You may not have ate the pin, but it still goes down in the record books as a loss. Somethin' you should be real familiar with.
Tell me, how's that hunt for John Cena goin'? Get your woman back yet? All that time spent in your company and she leaves you just when you're comin' back to the limelight. And for one of yer biggest rivals in the sport, too. What a sob story. Guess she just couldn't take the losin' anymore.
Now Devitt lets loose with the smirk, He's clearly not afraid for Punk to know the truth of hos he feels. A few months ago, Devitt might've referred to his next opponent as one of the ebay to ever step in the ring., But that was before his string of personal and professional failures ended in his wife leaving him. Now, any respect that might have been had evaporated.
PRINCE DEVITT: I mean, that's what yer known for, innit? Losin'? Even when you win, you're behind or below someone else. Never the main event, always the second-best on a good day, and even lower when it's not. And you think you're gonna walk in here, get your in back from me, steal back your girl…and then what? Disappear back into retirement? Just give up and walk away when all's right in the world again?
Devitt snorts in derision again. No matter how bad things had gotten in his life, one thing Devitt had never done is quit or back down from anything. To have watched Punk walk away, then come crawling back chasing after a woman, of all things…
PRINCE DEVITT: Fook that, Punk. And fook you if you think that's how the world works. 'Cause the way I see it, you're standing right in the path of a pissed off, dangerous man who's lookin' to earn a little revenge, I may have got my sights set on someone else, but I ain't about to overlook the poor sod standin' in between me and my goals.
Any hint of levity disappeared from Devitt's demeanor now. He very well could have walked away after the chaos of the past few months in the wrestling world. But he hadn't. He signed on to WLCW with the intention of earning the respect and the accolades he'd felt he deserved all along. And now he was starting to feel disrespected again. Cheating, repeat opponents, pointless matches…next would probably be some face paint and some fancy lights. He'd been there, done that, and wasn't about to do it again.
PRINCE DEVITT: I'm real sick and tired of not gettin' the respect I deserve. So let me put the whole fookin' company on notice, top to bottom. I came in here with a chip on my shoulder, but I ain't above gettin' a little dirty to get what I think is mine. If that's what it takes, then so be it. If you're gonna keep throwin' me up against the undeservin' rejects and givin' opportunities to never-weres that gotta cheat to win, well, then I ain't afraid to pull the same moves. Maybe it'll start with you, Punk. Maybe not. Either way, you all oughtta be watchin' your backs from here on.
Devitt stares a hole into the camera to punctuate that last point. The long pause really emphasizes that Devitt, while he has a jokey and sarcastic side, absolutely means business in the ring. And he isn't afraid to hurt people to get what he wants.
PRINCE DEVITT: 'Cause I'm here, I want a title, I want recognition for just how damn good I am, and I'll be damned if I'm not gonna get it, and everyone else can piss off if they don't like it. One way or another, I'm takin' what I want. And if that takes beatin' CM Punk so bad he goes back into retirement? Well, I'd consider that a bonus.
See you soon, Punk. Bang bang.
With that, Devitt stops recording, once again stealing the line of the face of WLCW management with purpose. Two words, stolen, that fight right in with his attitude, with his ethos, and with his intentions towards first Punk, and then the rest of the WLCW roster. One way or another, Devitt would get the X-Division title at this point, and it seemed the road back to Cardona ran through the former "Best in the World"...
