To flip the script on Josh's previous post. Who's someone you did NOT like and eventually came to like and maybe even become a favorite.
For me?
Kurt Angle - Ashamed to say, but at very first I just found him kinda dumb, then once he really hit his comedic stride, I was in.
Honorable Mentions
Darby Allin - I didn't necessarily dislike Darby, but when I saw the first AEW Double or Nothing (the one before Dynamite was a thing), I was like "who the fuck is this skating goof"? That's really what made AEW kinda hard at first watching those first few PPVs. I had zero idea who most of the people were, what their stories were, so as a casual I felt very disconnected and unsure why to care besides just enjoying how some folks wrestled. Actually a big Darby fan now.
MJF - Let me make clear. I still mostly hate MJF and find him one of the most grating people on TV (and not in a good way), but even I gotta admit the clips I've seen with him and Punk lately have given me a new appreciation for him. That said I'll never forget Cristina Vee owning him on a Twitter reply and him deleting his post like a little bitch lol

Eddie Kingston. Saw him at IWA:DS once and thought he was a slob with his crappy ring gear and gut. Now I think he’s incredible thanks to his AEW work

It's weird to say this out loud, considering how much I love him now, but I didn't like Stone Cold when I started watching in late 2000. I can't remember why I didn't like him, but it took me some time to catch onto what the hype was all about. Now he's an all time favorite of mine.

Most recently, Emi Sakura. My first exposure to her was Pro Wrestling EVE and she didn't impress me at all despite the commentators really putting her over as a legend. Then she turns up in AEW wearing a fake mustache and doing the Freddie Mercury stuff, which was beyond awful. Just bottom of the barrel dirt worst shit. Could not BELIEVE they gave her a PPV title shot against Riho.
Really enjoyed her matches in the AEW Eliminator Tournament. Wanted to see more of Mei Suruga after that tournament, which led me into watching hours of ChocoPro. Through ChocoPro, got to see a lot more of Emi's personality and what she could do, then was genuinely happy when she got to come to America full-time.

I'd put Edge up there. When I got back into wrestling in 2005, he didn't do anything for me. I couldn't believe he was the one chosen over Christian between the two of them. Now I can look back at pretty much everything he's done since the initial E&C split and recognize he was terrific and very deserving of being a top guy.

It's 100% Eddie Kingston. I remember when he came in for the TNT open challenge thing and I was just so off put by him. I had heard a lot of stories and saw things about him on Reddit and he just seemed like such a mega douchebag...Maybe I got worked? I don't know. He seems like that in real life kind of too lol. The more I watch him work though and the stuff he does...I'm just a fan now. I actually feel like he's being misused in AEW in some ways and that he's way more talented than he's being given time for there. I'm hopeful that they'll really push him through this Jericho / Santana/Ortiz thing because it has a chance to make him look really good in the end.

For those who know me, this might be a bit of a shock, but Mayu Iwatani fits this. She really hadn't been on my radar when I started getting back into wrestling back in 2014, even as I discovered Stardom stuff from around 2016. The more I've seen of her work, the more I read about her, the more she's grown on me. To come from where she started to where she is now is inspiring to me, and for that and many reasons she's become arguably my favorite active wrestler.

I’m gonna add FTR to this list. Just never got the hype in their NXT / Wwe run. Was kind of annoyed they kind of got hotshotted like they did early in their Aew days. But their work the last year or so has really got me enjoying their stuff. Definitely look forward to their matches and they always entertain me. Wish Tully wasn’t with them as much but we did name one of our cats Tully, so it’s nice just to see him involved.
