He quickly reached back into his mind to the past. Roughly a dozen title belts sat behind large cabinets that were mounted to the wall. Each one had his name on it along with pictures taken of him wearing the gold belts of many companies. The most recent memory had come just a few months ago in the farewell show for a company that had been around since the early 2000s. Time had taken its toll and it was the right time to go out. Being in the main event that night was bitter sweet since it was the first and the last time he would hold that title belt. It was where he got his start and where he met Alex Shelley.
Now there was only one company left and World League Championship Wrestling had made one hell of a debut. While sitting inside his spacious home in a secluded inlet outside of Seattle he spent the holidays contemplating retirement. Why not go out on top? Chris kept asking himself what else there was to do in the industry and he kept circling back to opening up his own wrestling school and maybe one day starting his own promotion. It was time to give back. A conversation a few days after Christmas changed all of that and here he was in a place he never thought he would be.
Standing next to Alex Shelley
Chris looked at Alex and then his eyes drifted up to the eyes of another man standing near them. The man’s eyes were shielded by sunglasses but the look on his face said it all. He was the architect of this reunion and he couldn’t have been happier to actually pull it off.
STEVE BORDEN What?!?!
Chris just shook his head and waited for the announcer to say both of their names. In the moment of silence before the three of them walked out he slapped Alex on the back and smirked.
CHRIS SABIN: Just like old times huh?
Alex looks out to the crowd in front of them instead of looking back at Chris.
ALEX SHELLEY Not really. They used to say my name first.
The team of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley walk out with Steve “The Icon” Borden beside them in front of an excited and anxious collection of press. Steve Borden steps out in front of the reunited tag team and flashes a brilliant smile.
STEVE BORDEN Ladies and gents thank you for coming out tonight. I know there are a lot of press events this week with Storm being in town but I told all of you that I was working on something big and here they are. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley reunited for the first time in years. The Motor City Machine Guns are back baby!!
He felt like the excitement in Borden’s voice was genuine and deep down inside he was excited to be with WLCW. Chris stepped forward after Alex motioned to him to step forward.
CHRIS SABIN: Damn right we are, Icon. It feels just like those early days when Alex and I were just getting started in the business and now we both have a HUGE chance to make a name for ourselves right off the bat. The best talent in the world has landed in Salt Lake City and we are here to stake our claim both as a team and individuals. Isn't that right, Alex?
Chris could feel the daggers being sent his way from Alex. His former and now current tag team partner used to put him on the spot all the time so this was the first chance he had turning the tables in public at least. Sabin watched as Alex stepped forward and looked Chris in the eye.
ALEX SHELLEY That has been the best thing you’ve said in years, Chris but with one exception. You can stake your claim as much as you want. I’m here to take it and this company by force. I’m just glad you came along for the ride…
