There's quite a few of us here from different circles and different eras in this stupid game we get too worked up about.
Who's your favorite opponent you've had? Maybe your main rival or someone you just crossed paths with again and again that brought the best out of you?
For me, it's Brett. We came up together and had some wars in SGW, nEw, and I'm sure some other places along the way. Always felt we brought the best out of one another. Another would be Matt G., an old SGW guy. We had a few rounds and I always felt like a better writer afterwards.

I've never really had any sustained rivalries, I don't think.
My most consistent opponent has been Brett, probably. We've had matches in '02, '05, '07, and '20 that were all very hardfought, very close. Some of them for world titles. One of them was a freakin' dark match for Cutting Edge Wrestling in 2007 where he was Val Venis and I was Jimmy Jacobs. Our most recent was in NWA Battlelines, where he was Tommaso Ciampa and I was Johnny Gargano. That one was super close and could have gone either way.
Anthony has risen to rival status, I would say. We've only had 3 matches against one another that I can remember, but he handed me my first loss in like 18-19 years in 2020. That hurt a lot, so now we are fated to duel for the rest of time.
Me and Chalmers wrote 27k each against each other. That's pretty rival'ish.

I doubt I'd ever be able to top the string of matches that I had with Corey Rich in '06 SGW.
We really slugged it out in (I believe) four consecutive world title matches with me as 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and him as Lance Storm. We both won one match and had two draws. It was as close as close gets.

I remember having a really stupid rivalry with Mike Anstett in the PWA Tri-Fed in 1999. It was the only tri-fed concept I've ever seen in real wrestler feds, and one of the only "brand split" type e-feds I've ever seen be successful and it was before WWE was actually doing a brand split. Basically, he was Tracy Smothers (LOL) and I was brand new to fedding with no real concept of what I was doing, and I chased him from brand to brand (WWF, ECW, WCW) as The Dudley Boyz, attacking him at every turn. He HATED ME and it was a long time later in a whole 'nother fed before he finally came around to me as something more than a nuisance.

Seems like Brett is the popular answer but that's what I'm saying as well. We did a fun Val Venis vs Mr Anderson feud in EWA around 2014. I feel like that's when I was doing some of my best stuff is when I was working with him.

...
...is something I'd expect Josh to have said at one point but he's being kind and humble Josh right now lol
That said, Josh and Scott definitely at the top of that list of favorite opponents. Both push me in different ways. Zelda hasn't been an opponent yet, but her creativity and vivid ways of building entire arcs and pantheons for her characters inspires me a lot.
Dave I'd call a rival since I kept losing to him in SGW '19 and it was driving me up the wall lol

Man, it's so hard to pick. As a lot of you guys know, I did a lot of work in EWA, which some of you if not most of you are familiar with.
I had been out of the game for a long while as far as efeds goes. When I got back in, I was just kind of flailing and struggling. Not really understanding the whole deal and concept of it. And, of course, it was Brett that kind of brought me in and we did a Cody Rhodes / Val Venis thing...and that thing...that feud wound up traversing multiple years. A lengthy tag team title reign. Multiple mid card title matches and even a little world title rub with a major event win mixed in. I can't tell you how many times Brett and I crossed paths in EWA history. With so many different characters throughout the years...From Brett's Ken Shamrock to my Marty Scurll to his Val and my Cody to hell, his Kevin Owens and my Curtis Axel. So many great matches and fun stories.
Then we burned down Cody's house in a SuperBrawl group rp.

Well I didn’t expect all this when I opened this thread.
I have been doing this way too long if I am everyone’s favorite opponent. I am 100% certain I lost most of my matches against all of you. It truly is an honor that you all have fond memories working with me. That’s really why I have been doing this for so long. The feuds and friendships are what keep my playing this silly game.
I could wax poetic about all my battles with Scott, Josh, Brian and Craig. But I’ve decided to go in a different direction.
One of the most challenging opponents I’ve had in my late-stage efed career is Jared. We stumbled accidentally into a Ken Shamrock/Trevor Mann feud in EWA. Winning that feud set me up for a world title run with Shamrock in 2018/2019.
Our showdown at SGW Wrestlebrawl 3 (Val Venis vs Adam Cole) was an absolute career highlight.
We had a hot feud (Hangman Page vs Santos Escobar) last year in EWA. We didn’t really get to have a proper sendoff for that one. Maybe you all could help me convince Jared to sign up here for one last showdown. In true fashion with most of my long-term rivals, he’s due to kick my ass.
Great topic. Thanks for posting!

So I don't have a ton of experience or big rivalrys but I used to love to rp as Homicide and thought I was doing pretty good until I got stomped in a surprise title match to none other then... the disco inferno lol. I dont remember the the name of the guy I faced but he was a great writer.

I don't even know. I've faced off against Scott, Josh, Anthony, Brett, Dustin, a whole slew of others who aren't around anymore... I remember having a series of good matches with a guy named John Baron back in the day. He handled The Rock and I was Chavo Guerrero Jr. I believe it was a feud over the TV Title. I won the tournament over him to win it, he beat me for it... I beat him in the rubber match. It was solid.

Dave was extremely the most fun in building the one feud I had against him on Shock even though he handed me my ass every time
But facing yolo 800 times is also really fun so tough call

Ailly is the opponent I always know will bring out my A-game, not least because I am scared shitless of her ability. I've never gotten that deep in plotting with any other fedder, mostly because I hyper focus on my own characterization, and the few times I have ended up being with people who, put kindly, weren't exactly on the same creative wavelength as me.

When in doubt throw Yolo vs Wasabi, we fight FOREVER, so him.
Also Scott and Josh because I had a plethora of tag matches with Scott and Josh gave me a fued that really made my Dickinson something.
